The new kitchen layout and extension at ground floor level of this Victorian property was partly driven by an existing working fireplace that formed the focus for a new sitting area close to the main part of the house, leaving space for the kitchen and dining areas to overlook the rear garden.
A bespoke light well separating the old and new spaces creates a distinct transition between the two volumes, and at the same time affords the existing rear reception room with much needed natural light.
The kitchen itself takes a slightly industrial look and feel, with handmade plywood and Formica design detail inspired by a much-loved old kitchen side table, while structural steels are left exposed and painted.
